#Onthisday 100 years ago, 'Ràdio Lot' magazine publishes the first image of 'Miliu', Toresky's partner at EAJ1

Data de publicació: 01-10-2026
On October 1st 1926, issue number 13 of "Ràdio Lot" magazine, edited by Eduard Rifà, founder of the Associació Nacional de Ràdio, presents a great exclusive with the first drawing of the character 'Miliu' -a result of Toresky's fantasy-, a recurring, sharp little boy who constantly compromises the teacher in their dialogues.

With the image signed by cartoonist Bocquet, the radio station plays with the listener and pretends the character actually exists. Miliu's popularity is so big, especially among children, that he soon begins to star in children welfare campaigns. He will also sometimes appear as a puppet or as a real human, as he is shown for the first time on a film about the station in 1926.

Toresky is hired by EAJ1 from the beginning as a rhapsodist and soon he focuses on a child audience by reading stories. It is then that he comes up with the dialogues between Toresky and Miliu that become a hallmark of Ràdio Barcelona. Toresky in Spanish (we're in Primo de Rivera's dictatorship) and Miliu in Catalan.

In number 25 of "Ràdio Lot", ventriloquist Toresky explains how he chose the profile for this mischievous kid: "Out of necessity. The dialogue I have with Miliu wouldn't be possible if Miliu was a regular boy, somewhat "feckless", a "bon enfant" as the French would say. On the contrary, he has to be a naughty boy, sharp as a needle, who gets up to all sorts of mischief while preserving the treasure of nobility and a good heart, the main characteristic of the children of Catalonia.
